Overview The Cayman Independent is seeking a Senior Writer for our business newspaper which also publishes several new magazines focused on financial services, fintech, digital assets, insurance, banking and wealth management. Our platform also covers a wide range of topics, including local government, sports and lifestyle features. The Cayman Independent is part of the FTS Cayman group of Companies. This jobs presents an opportunity for promotion to an editorial position in the medium term.
Duties & Responsibilities - Produce high-quality business, economic, technology and sports journalism for the Cayman Independent - Research, write, and edit news articles, explainers, and analysis pieces - Cover policy, technology, corporate, and economic developments relevant to the Cayman Islands Work closely with the editor to shape editorial priorities and story development - Conduct interviews with senior professionals, industry figures, and stakeholders - Maintain high standards of factual accuracy, clarity, and editorial integrity - Meet deadlines consistently in a fast-moving news environment.
Required Skills and Experience • Minimum of five years’ experience in journalism • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or equivalent • Strong writing, editing, and research skills • Comfortable working with complex business, economic, and regulatory topics • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy • Ability to work independently while contributing to a small, collaborative team • Professional, reliable, and well organised.
Benefits Salary: US$72,000 to US$82,000 per year, depending on experience, 15 days vacation.
