Sky News has closed its newsroom in virtual world Second Life, according to associate editor Simon Bucks. The news organisation had used the platform to conduct interviews and recruit citizen videojournalists .

But since creating the virtual newsroom two years ago, technology has moved on, explained Bucks in a blog post .

"In Second Life, increasingly, the trend has moved away from corporate islands like the Sky Newsroom," he wrote.

Last November The Register reported that Reuters had pulled its reporter Adam Reuters , real name Adam Pasick, from his Second Life Post.

Sky will continue to make its news bulletins available in Second Life through 'news pods' placed in a new workspace section of the virtual world set up for business meetings and workplace discussions.
