Sky News has developed a mobile website specifically for iPhone users.

Announcing the release on his blog , James Week, technology manager at Sky News, said the site would be a 'lite' version of the existing Sky News mobile site.

The site's launch coincides with the long-awaited UK release of the Apple iPhone, which goes on sale today.

"When we saw one in the States, we were so impressed with the touch-screen that we decided to build a special version of the Sky News website, just for iPhone users," Week wrote in his blog post.

"It's a 'lite' version of the site you know and love: quick to load, easy to read and rather pretty. There are scrolling pages and nice big buttons."

Plans to add Sky News podcasts to the iPhone site are also being considered, according to Week.

Sky News Online has also set up a competition for web developers this week to use the site’s RSS feeds to create their own applications for the chance to win a share of £10,000.

For more information about the competition see the technology section of Sky News or visit the Sky News’ facebook group . The deadline for entries is November 30.
