Southampton Solent University has launched a new multimedia journalism course for undergraduates.

The full-time BA Hons Multimedia Journalism degree will run for the first time from September, offering a mixture of vocational and academic training.

The course will make use of Solent's multimedia facilities, which include two television studios, four radio studios and digital video and audio editing suites.

"Taught by industry experienced lecturers, students will use up-to-date professional equipment for print, online and audio/video productions, and will work in a newsroom environment, producing material to deadline. We teach a unique blend of practice and theory across all units, with the aim of producing thinking journalists who can tell a story across a variety of media platforms," says the course description .

The new programme is the latest addition to the university's journalism school, which already offers undergraduate degrees in sport journalism, journalism and magazine journalism, as well as postgraduate degrees in Media and Media Practice. The University is also a Skillset Media Academy - one of 22 colleges and universities listed as a centre of excellence for media training by the industry body.
