US blog Sunlight Foundation has won the Deutsche Welle 2006 Best of the Blogs (BoBs) Award for its monitoring of the inner workings of the US Congress.

The BoBs jury members singled out the Sunlight Foundation for praise, from more than 5,500 blog entries, because of its 'work to increase transparency in government', calling the project a 'positive example of how blogs can shape political discourse'.

The jury of international bloggers, journalists and media experts created a shortlist of 10 nominees in each of the contest's 15 categories. The nominations were then opened to the public for three weeks of voting.

Two Persian-language blogs, the photo blog Kosoof and Hamed Mottaghis' weblog Tanine Sokut shared first prize in the Reporters Without Borders category.
