The Guardian has appointed Allan Donald as its new vice-president of product, a newly created position at the global publisher.

Donald joins from Netflix, where he served as director of product overseeing teams focused on content discovery. He will lead the development of the Guardian's core editorial platforms, products and user experiences.

In his new role, Donald will work with senior leaders across the Guardian's newsrooms in the UK, US and Australia. His focus will be on developing strategies to highlight what makes the Guardian's journalism distinctive.

He brings experience spanning both media and technology. Before Netflix, he held senior positions at the BBC, where he led digital publishing, and at Bloomberg, where he was responsible for news development. His career began in editorial roles at Scottish Television and the Herald Group.
