Do you love writing stories but get bogged down when it comes to editing your copy? Mistakes are easy to make, so it is worth double-checking every word before handing their piece to the editor.

Sandra Miller, freelance editor at Lifehack, offers up four vital pointers journalists should bear in mind before submitting their work.

One of her key pieces of advice is to step back from the laptop —maybe go and make yourself a coffee — and come back to it with a fresh pair of eyes.

"While writing, you are pouring your heart into those pages, so it is difficult for you to be objective about your work. This is why you need to take a break before you can start analysing your work like a reader would," Miller writes.
