Story threads

There are many storytelling apps and tools available to journalists, and working online often gives reporters the freedom to choose how to present their stories.

But with so many options comes the risk of overloading a story with too many multimedia elements, or choosing ones that distract from the story rather than explain it better.

To help journalists choose the right format for their report, students at MAZ, the Swiss School of Journalism, developed a flowchart that guides users through the main elements of a story, making suggestions for multimedia features that would be appropriate in the process.

And in a blog post on the Journalism Tools platform, Alexandra Stark, one of the flowchart's creators, explained how to use it and what to keep in mind when working on a multimedia story.
