Data skills are heavily sought after in newsrooms, but it can be difficult to find your way around databases or even to know what kind of data to look for when investigating certain subjects.
NICAR 2015 is an annual conference looking at computer-assisted reporting - organised by Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) and The National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting (NICAR).
After its latest edition in Atlanta last week, IRE published some tip sheets, handouts and presentations from speakers, which you can access here.
You can find, for example, tips for "detecting racial disparities in your town", or slides on "making every international story a data story".
