Radio can be a powerful storytelling medium, and as podcasting has been growing in popularity once again in recent years, online journalists should be looking to brush up on their audio storytelling skills.
Whether you are likely to be producing feature length radio packages or podcasts in the future, or putting together a voiceover for an image slideshow, mastering the science of recording great quality audio and structuring a good radio story should be on every digital journalist's to-do list.
The folk at Storybench, the digital storytelling platform from Northeastern University, have put together a list of helpful tips for creating great radio stories. The advice includes 'holding the listener's hand' throughout the piece, as well as leading with the best tape at the top.
