With mobile journalism now such a prominent factor in the everyday lives of journalists, the livestreaming app Periscope, launched in March 2015, can be a good channel for users to break news and build their own personal brand.

In this piece, Lizzie Jespersen, digital content manager at Gatehouse Media, gives eight tips to journalists on how to use the app to showcase their work, as well as bring in an interested audience.

Periscope can be a good tool to use when news breaks, Jespersen emphasised. “You are also able to save Periscope broadcasts as .mov files, which you can then use as multimedia elements within written coverage,” she wrote.

However, keep in mind that in some situations, livestreaming may not be the best idea, so be aware of your surroundings before broadcasting live.
