One of the main reasons why radio and podcast hosts stand out when we listen to their programmes is their tone and delivery, as well as knowing exactly when to emphasise a key point in their voiceovers.

If you have ever cringed at the sound of your voice on recordings or felt like your speech came out scripted, fear not, you are not alone. NPR's in-house voice coach Jessica Hansen has got you covered in this NPR Training article providing tips for sounding better on air.

She advises practising breathing exercises regularly to give your voice more range, and reading your script in different voices before you go on air to "sound like you’re truly telling the story to the listener in the moment".
