In newsrooms with fewer resources and fewer employees, reporters might often find themselves doing multiple jobs and with the fast delivery news requires, it can be hard to find time to spare for longform reporting or more in-depth projects.

You may be really interested in a particular topic that you wish to investigate in more detail, but you should first make sure it warrants the time and resources required to produce it.

In this post on the Online News Association website, Nadia Tamez-Robledo, communication specialist and ONA 2015 MJ Bear Fellow, advises finding "digital allies" to collaborate with in the newsroom and being as specific as possible in your research and sources before pitching the story to your editor.
