News organisations are setting up more and more of their own podcasts, and the tools to get started are often inexpensive and easy to get a hold of – but podcasting can be daunting to take up for journalists without any broadcasting experience.

Anna Noble, MA Online Journalism student at Birmingham City University, wrote about her experience as a newbie podcaster recording her first package.

She outlined some of the key lessons she learned in the process, including the need for journalists to become performers in front of the microphone, as well as the process of explaining numbers and figures to listeners in a more visual way.
