Tim Meko, graphics reporter at the Washington Post, visualised America's railroads, pipelines and other infrastructure to highlight what parts of the network are in need of repairs and upgrades.

He spoke to Storybench about the work that has gone into creating the maps, pointing to the source of his data and his process for visualising it.

In the interview with Storybench's Aleszu Bajak, Meko also gave his advice to young journalists interested in producing similar visualisations.

"Be curious. Find a topic that you know a little bit about and teach yourself the rest," he said.
