Data journalism is a popular form of reporting - but from the outside looking in, it can seem very technical.

What does it take to be a data journalist and what exactly do they do? Linda Vecvagare, Community Coordinator at European Journalism Centre (EJC), asked Laura Aragó, a data journalist at La Vanguardia on its 100 paths to journalism series on LinkedIn.

Aragó said that there are two key ingredients in a data journalist's skill set: coding and reading.

"Any new language can be useful in the future: R, Javascript, Python, SQL… But also don’t forget to follow useful data journalism reports and articles - reading or watching journalism is the best way to keep your eye trained," she said.
