It is part of the journalist's job to sometimes cover difficult and tragic events. This was the case last month in Boulder, Colorado (USA) where ten people lost their lives in a supermarket shooting.
One of the reporters covering the tragedy was Josh Helmuth, morning news anchor for local TV station KRDO. On his YouTube channel, he talks about what journalists should do after covering such events. After learning how a police officer dealt with the same burden, Helmuth applies the same advice to his own work: always take off your uniform when you get home at the end of the day.
"Whatever you were wearing that day when you were dealing with that tragedy, change clothes. It may just be a mental thing, but you're allowing your mind to say 'I'm putting this thing behind me and I'm moving on to spending time with my family, friends, I'm unwinding'," he says.
