Newsroom metrics are an essential way to decipher how your audience is engaging with your content on which platform, but if they are not communicated well amongst journalists, they won't be as effective.

As Tim Cigelske writes in this article on MediaShift, there are a variety of ways that metrics can be sucessfully shared with journalists all over the newsroom, from automating the sharing process to creating posters to stick around the office.

Cigelske also refers to how Jason Alcorn, metrics section editor, MediaShift, made a contest out of their metrics reports at American Quarterly by awarding the top of the weekly metrics leaderboard a free lunch – paid for by the rest of the team.

“Bragging about metrics got us talking about metrics and about what readers cared about,” Alcorn said. “Win-win in my book.”
