One of the biggest challenges journalists face is reporting on hard-hitting topics such as poverty.

It is important to handle the topic with the sensitivity it deserves, but also do justice to reporting on important stories.

After interviewing seasoned journalists Heather Bryant and Barbara Raab, Cristiana Bedei of IJNet outlines four tips to improve coverage of poverty.

“Don’t let the hunt for a great soundbite compromise a fair representation of the complexities of people’s lives,” writes Bedei, noting that journalists need to question their preconceptions.
