Podcasts seem to have been all the rage in recent years.

For journalists still wondering why this is a space worth venturing into, Suchandrika Chakrabarti, host of Freelance Pod, offers seven good reasons why journalists should look to get into audience's ears.

Podcasting, she wrote, helps to expand your network and open up more opportunities. Through Freelance Pod, Chakrabarti has been able to interview high-profile guests at companies such as LinkedIn, RISJ and Apple Podcast.

"What did they all have in common? They liked being asked to guest on a podcast," she wrote. "By offering my potential new contacts a collaboration, rather than just asking for their expertise over a coffee, I got the chance to meet some great people and learn from them."
