When tweeting about a story, using a stand-out quote or interesting fact tends to be much more engaging than a straight-up headline.

So if you want to encourage the way stories on your blog or site are shared on the social web it's a good idea to include a link which automatically picks up a particularly strong line to post to Twitter.

Here's an example:

Tweet thisTweet me

For non-coders, this isn't as tricky as it might sound. As Paul Bradshaw, who runs the online journalism MA at Birmingham City University, explains on his Online Journalism Blog, "if you know how to create a link then you already know how to do create a tweetable quote".

Paul explains how to do this and more as part of a series into learning the basics of HTML and CSS, also available as an ebook.
