Many stories have their roots in numbers, so maths skills are a must to be able to spot patterns, spikes or any unusual activity when looking at spreadsheets, for example.
But there's also this idea that journalists are scared of maths, which the team at Journalist's Resource has set out to address in this post.
They not only pointed out a number of data-centred media outlets that have come along in recent years, but also published a handy list of resources for journalists who want to sharpen up their maths skills.
The case for doing that is, of course, the increasing volumes of data being gathered in the digital age, and all the potential stories that could be found by working with it.
