Networking at Newsrewired

As much as conferences can be a rich source of contacts and story leads for journalists, it can quickly become a plate-spinning exercise.

What you ideally want to do is make the absolute most of that experience, after all your boss has likely stumped the bill to get you there.

From the Lenfest Institute’s Next Generation Fund cohort, Doris Truong, director of training and diversity, Poynter, provided six tips to acing your next conference, as reported by Nick Kozankywycz on Medium. Truong said that preparation and prioritisation are key.

“Look at the schedule in advance and pick out sessions you want to attend. This will help you understand when and where the workshops and panels are in relation to each other.

“You should also craft backup plans. Some sessions may be filled by the time you get there or they could be uninteresting. Don’t be afraid to leave and head to another session that will be more productive,” she said.

Our Newsrewired conference takes place on the 27 November at Reuters, London. Visit Newsrewired.com for the full agenda and tickets
