Since the two-way exchange of information between journalists and their readers is becoming more important in newsrooms, growing numbers of organisations now work with their audience to source stories.

However, there are some important guidelines journalists should keep in mind while crowdsourcing articles online.To help, IJNet's Juan Manuel Casanueva listed five main questions (and their answers) to help newsrooms improve their engagement tools.

Casanueva recommends, among other suggestions, starting up protocols for daily interactions with users, setting up a private or anonymous way to communicate, and creating understandable terms of service.
