There have been three separate attacks reported in the mainstream media today, at a beach resort in Tunisia, a factory in France and a mosque in Kuwait.
Images allegedly from the attack in Kuwait posted to social media are particularly graphic, and a key role in modern newsrooms is finding and verifying images in breaking news situations exactly like this.
The Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma has guidelines on how individual journalists and their editors should manage this kind of exposure, and the risks of vicarious trauma should not be ignored.
There is no shame in being affected by explicit, violent pictures of death and destruction, and the effects can sneak up on you if not properly addressed. Look after yourselves.
