Looking at analytics is a great way to understand what your audience is most interested in, how they are engaging with news, and at what time. But getting reporters to tune in to the numbers and keep up to date with the latest figures can be challenging, so how can editors make analytics more exciting for their staff?

Check out this advice from Jean Hodges at Gatehouse Newsroom, who gives crowdsourced tips on how editors can encourage reporters to care about how people interact with their stories.

For example, John Gallas, deputy managing editor for digital at the Daytona Beach News-Journal, doesn't just send a long list of figures to people in the newsroom. Instead, he uses brief, succinct emails to share analytics data with his staff, using bullet points to sum up complicated information and offering short tips on what is and isn't engaging audiences.
