The modern newsroom is evolving, whether it is the emergence of hybrid work, the growing influence of social media in news or revenue possibilities opening up. All of this means is that how newsrooms hire and train talent needs to evolve as well.
Writing for The Fix Media, tech and media journalist David Tvrdon explores the core skills needed to work in the modern newsroom, looking at the three pillars of editorial, product and finance.
"I see newsrooms increasingly hire SEO editors instead of social media managers (or upskilling social media managers to become SEO editors first). The return on investment is simply better," writes Tvdron.
"And you need someone who is looking out for new platforms and has the opportunity to experiment. Many newsrooms (especially smaller ones) still haven’t set up a TikTok account. With audiences fleeing Meta platforms to TikTok this means they are no longer being reached by your content."
