Having an understanding of code can help journalists approach stories in new ways and better communicate with colleagues who produce interactives for their newsroom.

Check out this article from reporter Alli Shultes at Storybench, who rounded up some of the favourite tutorials from reporters and developers attending the latest Journocoders meetup in London.

For example, Aime Williams, reporter at the Financial Times, pointed to a tutorial, from Luuk Derksen and Denise Xifara of Decoded, which "felt like you were following in someone’s footsteps and actually reconstructing that real-life situation".
