Feature pieces can be some of the most engaging and entertaining articles for your readers, but also one of the hardest to get right.

Mary Hogarth, managing director, The Magazine Expert Ltd, shared her top five tips on writing an excellent feature piece on Press Gazette.

Key ingredients include in-depth research and first-class interviewees, but Hogarth also says an outstanding feature is thoroughly edited.

"Never send in your first draft," she writes. "Always edit the first draft to address any awkward sentences or potentially unanswered questions in the text, while the third read is for proofreading purposes."
