Local US news startup BringMeTheNews.com has raised a million dollars in investment from two new partners, allowing the site to expand beyond its Minnesota patch.
The website, which was founded almost a year ago by former investigative journalist and TV anchor Rick Kupchella, currently pulls together news and articles relevant to Minnesota from across the web and redistributes them through its network of news sites and social media channels.
It also produces a series of radio newscasts, which it claims are broadcast more than 100 times a day across numerous local stations.
The new investment - from media firm The Dolan Company and public relations and marketing agency Padilla Speer Beardsley - will provide the site with the financial backing needed to increase its geographical and topical coverage.
"This investment and partnership offered by The Dolan Company and Padilla Speer Beardsley will help us grow BringMeTheNews further and faster while offering us critical expertise on our board. We expect to use this investment to expand beyond Minnesota as well as broaden the content we offer to other categories," Kupchella says in a release .
James Dolan, CEO of the Dolan Company, said he was attracted to BringMeTheNews' business model.
"Rick and Don have developed a very real multimedia business that grew to an impressive size less than a year after launch. We think they are onto something big and we are very pleased to be a part of it," he said.
