Plan your journalism career

Does your career lack purpose and direction? Do you need some targets and goals?

Many of us just followed the opportunities or jobs that came up, rather than asking ourselves what do we really want from our careers and work towards our objectives.

This workshop will help you map your career and plan out what you would like to achieve. It will also look at opportunities for career development and what your first steps should be.

The four-hour session is suitable for journalists just starting their career or those who are much further in but would like to find a new direction. It is led by David Callaghan, a journalist with more than 30 years of experience.

Course description:

You will focus on creating your career goals and clarifying the reasons why you have chosen those targets.

You will look at how your skillset and experience can help you to get to your planned destinations and how you can learn from others.

Several different career paths will be considered as you look for ideas you can adapt to your own circumstances.

By the end of the course you will have:

  • Identified the next steps in your career
  • Set some ‘end-game’ goals for what you want to achieve
  • Measured your progress so far
  • Assessed whether you are on track to get to where you want to be

Getting there

This is an online Zoom session running from 2pm to 6pm GMT.
