From tomorrow users will be able to upload still and video images to Yahoo News for use on its website and to be distributed by Reuters . You Witness News is the latest attempt to turn spectators into journalists by having them submit images of newsworthy events that they witness.

Reuters will then edit and distribute the best images to third-party publications and feature them on its own website.

Yahoo News will run images submitted by the public as part of its news mix along with images supplied by the major news agencies and broadcasters.

"There is already a lot of quality amateur journalism being created by our users," Scott Moore, head of news and information at Yahoo Media Group, told Reuters. "Yahoo needed a more efficient process for soliciting and publishing user-contributed photos and video."

Initial focus will be on news events, but Yahoo plans to eventually expand the service to cover sport, entertainment and other areas.
