The BBC's first regular female newsreader, Angela Rippon, has been appointed visiting professor of consumer journalism at the University of Lincoln.
"Angela Rippon is recognised internationally as an outstanding journalist and we are delighted to establish this link with her," said Professor Richard Lance Keeble from the Lincoln School of Journalism.
"She is keen to help us in our teaching programme and I am sure the students will benefit enormously from her experience and enthusiasm."
Rippon recently investigated the practices of high street shops for BBC series 'Rip Off Britain', along with presenters Jennie Bond and Gloria Hunniford. She has presented a number of consumer television shows, including 'Cash in the Attic' and 'Sun Sea and Bargain Spotting' for BBC One.
She joins fellow visiting professors Dorothy Byrne, head of Channel 4 news and current affairs; Bridget Kendall, BBC diplomatic correspondent; Yasmin Alibhai-Brown, broadcaster and Independent columnist; Phillip Knightley, investigative reporter, and Mike Jempson, director of media ethics charity, MediaWise.
Rippon began her career in Plymouth, working at both BBC local radio and ITV local television before becoming the first regular (but not the very first) female BBC newsreader in the early 1970s.
