This year's Walkley Australian Young Journalist of the Year Latika Bourke is preparing to take up a new position at the country's public broadcaster ABC as social media reporter.
Bourke, who received the national accolade earlier this year for her coverage of the Liberal leadership crisis, will be joining the ABC team in Canberra’s Parliament House next year. According to a report by mumbrella.com, Bourke will be the ABC's first journalist to report primarily through social media, as part of a range of measures to look at ways social media can be used to enhance ABC’s coverage of national politics.
"I am delighted to welcome Latika to our Canberra team", director of news Kate Torney said in an announcement on the ABC blog. "The ABC has a strong tradition of embracing and exploring new ways of communicating with our audience across a range of new and emerging platforms. This latest appointment continues that tradition".
Bourke discusses her award win with the Walkley Foundation in the video below.
