The BBC will next week unveil the first phase of the redesign to its news and sports websites.
The development is part of BBC Journalism's Creative Future plan to create a multi-platform news service and give users greater exposure to - and control of - its content.
The corporation intends to place greater emphasis on its breaking news and online coverage of live events with the relaunch.
News and sport pages will be developed with wider templates to allow a 'more ambitious' use of pictures and promote the new embedded video service.
The BBC announced, earlier this month, that it would begin the migration of all its video content from a pop-up player to embedded Flash video player after an 'encouraging' set of experiments with the new system.
"This is the start of a rolling programme to refresh our sites and introduce exciting new designs and features across our services," said Pete Clifton , head of editorial development for multimedia journalism.
As part of this redesign strategy, the mobile version of the news and sport websites were revamped last month. They'll undergo further changes in the run up to the Olympic Games with the addition of more video content.
Other expected developments include the relaunch of the web pages of flagship news and current affairs programmes, including a Today programme site re-launch in May and an overhaul of Panorama's online presence planned for the summer.
