The British Society of Magazine Editors Awards 2011 has opened to entries with a new award for Columnist of the Year. An online entry form has also been produced this year for submissions, which can be made until 28 July.

Other award categories include editors of the year awards across 13 styles of magazine, a new editor of the year prize and launch of the year. Last year the Economist editor John Micklethwait was named Editors' Editor of the Year while NME editor Kriss Murison was named New Consumer Editor of the Year.

The results of the awards will be announced at the London Hilton on 8 November. Awards currently open for entries
