Former BBC technology editor Professor Alfred Hermida took the Best Blog award for Reportr.net in the business-to-business and scholarly website division at the Canadian Online Publishing Awards this week .
The awards, now in their second year, were handed out at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto on Wednesday night to recognise the best in online publishing and innovation in Canada. Writing on his blog Professor Hermida, now leader of the integrated journalism programme at the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of British Columbia, said it was "an honour" to be chosen for the award.
Other winners included the Toronto Star website which won the award for Best Overall Companion Website in the newspaper and broadcaster division, as well as Best Video and Best Cross-Platform Initiative. Cbcnews.ca took away the Best Blog award for the same division while the Globe and Mail's website won the Best News title, also for newspaper and broadcaster websites.
Entries were received from publishers and broadcasters across the country and a full list of the 32 winners can be found on the awards site .
