BBC sites blocked in mainstream China the day before the presentation of the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize can now be accessed again from within the country. Last week Journalism.co.uk reported that all BBC sites, including its news pages, were blocked to users in China prior to the awards ceremony which honoured Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo .
Xiaobo is currently serving an 11-year sentence in China charged with inciting subversion of state power.
The block had previously prevented access from within China to BBC.com/news, the broadcaster's English language international news site, and BBCChinaUK.com, its English language learning site.
Access to its Chinese language website remains blocked, as the BBC claims it has been ever since its inception around 12 years ago while its radio broadcasts in Mandarin and Cantonese have been subject to "interference".
The news websites for CNN and Norwegian state broadcaster NRK were also reportedly blocked in China last week. It's not yet known if they are now also unblocked.
