In the newly created role she will manage all online activities for the peer-to-peer news organisation in the UK including day-to-day web operations.

The website for the young adult's television network, which was relaunched last October , has a section of UK content selected by editors and contributions from video bloggers from the Guardian .

Billingsley joins Current having spent 18 months at Bauer Consumer Media, during which time she launched websites for Closer and Heat magazines.

Before her time at Bauer Billingsley was business development manager at TimesOnline for five years.

"I am delighted that Rebekah comes with such breadth and depth of experience. She will help Current to forge ahead in the UK market with our unique user generated content proposition to emulate the successes we have seen in the US. I look forward to working with her to take advantage of the continued growth of the UK web landscape," said Joanna Drake Earl, president of new media at Current.
