A&N Media, publisher of the Daily Mail, is planning to invest millions of pounds into a new printing plant in Essex. In a release today, A&N, the consumer media division of Daily Mail General Trust, announced that its printing division Harmsworth Printing Limited is considering plans to relocate its present printing operation in Surrey Quays, South London to a new site in Thurrock.

According to the announcement, the planned investment would allow A&N to upgrade and refurbish its current flexo printing presses.

"The plan envisages that presses would be transferred from Surrey Quays to Thurrock over a period of three and a half years, at the end of which the Surrey Quays site would close," the release adds.

The investment in the new plant would be in the region of £45m to £50m over four years.

A spokesman said the planned move is expected to deliver significant savings once implemented, with the new plant having the capacity to print 128-page full-colour copies of the Daily Mail and 160-page copies of the Mail on Sunday.
