An English-language newspaper aimed specifically at the Muslim community is being developed by south asian television network ARY Digital. The new weekly publication will be edited by former Times deputy features editor Burhan Wazir and will feature print and digital news, business, sport, features and opinion pieces.
The newspaper, which is aimed to be launched in three to four months, will be published in London and Pakistan and also distributed throughout Europe, although circulation numbers are not yet known.
In a release the company said the newspaper will aim to "build bridges on issues common to the west and the Muslim world".
"From London to Washington, via the Gulf and South Asia, there is need of a quality product aimed at an increasingly sophisticated and metropolitan Muslim community," editor Burhan Wazir added. "Our reporters and writers will help shape this debate, finding common ground between Europe, Asia and the Middle East."
Wazir told Journalism.co.uk that the company is currently looking for reporters and productions staff within the UK to work on the publication, as well as a larger network of freelancers across Europe and the Middle East. He added that he expects to take on between 20 to 25 journalists in total.
