The Enquirer local newspaper series is to launch a new edition for Thurrock following a successful bid for a year-long council advertising contract.
The Thurrock Enquirer will be published for the first time on Thursday with 25,000 copies due to be distributed. The new Thurrock edition will run alongside the publisher's existing titles, the Essex Enquirer and East London Enquirer.
Thurrock Council put its advertising contract out to tender last year , seeking to appoint a print media partner for the supply of advertising space.
According to a report by yourthurrock.com , the Enquirer beat the Newsquest-owned Thurrock Gazette to win the tender competition, which was based partly on price and service.
The editor of the Enquirer, Neil Speight told Journalism.co.uk that in time it is hoped the contract will result in an additional journalist being appointed to work on the patch.
Today's news follows the government's announcement last week that a revised Code of Recommended Practice on Local Authority Publicity has been put before parliament.
The revised code outlines seven principles for ensuring council publicity is "lawful, cost effective, objective, even handed and appropriate".
Further comment from the council was not available at the time of writing.
