Entries to the European Parliament Prize for Journalism 2011 open tomorrow. The prize recognises excellence in written press, radio, television and online.

The prize, now in its fourth year, aims to give public recognition to journalists who have covered major European issues or promoted better understanding of EU institutions or policies.

Last year the first prize in the online category went to British journalist James Clive-Matthews, who received €5,000 for an article on his blog, EUtopia, "What percentage of laws come from the EU?".

Applications for this year's prize can be submitted from tomorrow until 31 March, either from individuals or teams of up to five people.

Winners will receive their prize at a presentation ceremony in October.
