will cater for journalists new to reporting on the UK government.

The 'Working with Whitehall Workshop' will offer advice on how to make contacts within government offices and who to address enquiries to.

Ian Hargreaves, director of strategic communications at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, and Carl Newns, head of news and press secretary to the foreign secretary, will open the workshop, which is open to FPA members.

Press officers from government departments and representatives from institutions including the Financial Services Authority and the Metropolitan Police will also be participating.

The event will take place on November 18 at the FPA's headquarters on Carlton House Terrace in London.
