The Guardian is now adding local campaign material, as collected by The Straight Choice users, to its politics site. An example can be seen on the Brighton Pavilion page here .

"We are very happy to see election leaflets photographed by users of The Straight Choice syndicated on the Guardian: the more eyes on what the parties are promising, and the more informed we can make voters the better," said the Straight Choice developer Richard Pope.

The Straight Choice, launched earlier this year in time for the upcoming general election, is a volunteer-led effort to hold parties to account over their election tactics and policy. Users of the site photograph or scan the leaflets they receive through their doors and upload them to the site .

"Election leaflets are one of the main weapons in the fight for votes in the UK," its site says.

"They are targeted, effective and sometimes very bitter. We need your help to photograph and map them so we can keep an eye on what the parties are up to, and try to keep them honest."

One of The Straight Choice's latest initiatives will attempt to monitor how political parties are buying online Google Adwords, as the Conservatives have done for the Liberal Democrat shadow chancellor, Vince Cable, for example. More details can be found at this link .
