The founder of a hyperlocal blog has turned to Twitter in his search for a job, aiming to raise money to finance the future of his local site.

Ray Duffill started the Hedon Blog , a community website for the East Yorkshire town, in January 2009 after being made redundant near the end of 2008.

He had hoped the site would help him learn more about his local area whilst "keeping his hand in" social media tools.

Now, 18 months on, he wants to continue developing the site which has become his "passion", but is lacking the funds to do so.

Duffill recently changed tactic in his job hunt, creating a slideshow CV and sharing it on Twitter using SlideShare , in the hope he will catch the eye of a future employer.

"I have produced the SlideShare presentation and promoted it through Twitter in a novel attempt to secure some appropriate employment that would allow me to finance my activities in managing the Hedon Blog," he told Journalism.co.uk.

"The website has become something of a passion with me and I have become part of the wider network of community journalist websites, referred to now as 'hyperlocal'. Needless to say I had never heard that term up until a year ago! I have maintained the website as a no-cost 'showcase' for social-media tools freely available on the web i.e. not particularly suited to income generation, and have built up a small but significant local niche audience in my town."

Despite receiving over 350 views, the presentation is yet to attract the attention of a potential employer, but he remains hopeful.

"The production of the SlideShare presentation proves to JobCentre Plus authorities that I am searching for work, and also helps to get me 'noticed' by potential employers that might be sympathetic to my hyperlocal activities," he says.

"As a community development practitioner - whether in work or out - I believe I have useful skills that are valuable in making 'hyperlocal' - and the government's 'Big Society' agenda - work to benefit local communities."
