Here is a stat from the latest Reuters Institute Digital News Report that made me do a double-take:

At the global level, of the 27 per cent of respondents who say they consume news from creators who mainly focus on news, 47 per cent of these people say that most or all of their news needs are met by these news creators.

Clearly, these news creators are onto something. How are they breaking the status quo? We've pulled out 15 of our favourites (in no particular order) and have been fairly generous with our definition of a 'news creator'. But we've focused mostly on content creation around news, interviews, specialities and communities.

  • News Daddy (Dylan Page): The TikTok headline king with nearly 20m followers offers punchy breakdowns of trending news stories inside a neon-lit bedroom, occasional collabs with other creators and probably the best example of 'pure social news' for Gen Z.
  • Piers Morgan (Piers Morgan Uncensored): Loud, controversial and never lets anyone finish their sentence. Say what you will, Piers has figured out the content creator game. He has an arsenal of content at his fingertips from his debate show.
  • Johnny HarrisThe master of cinematic and animated narrative journalism and documentaries, known for his (nearly) eight million YouTube subscriber account. Newly entered into the podcast space and has a creator network called Newspress.
