Cunningham, former vice president of strategy for AOL UK , will be tasked with developing the group's digital interests, which currently includes 338 websites.

She has previously also held positions as head of new business at Net-A-Porter.com and as a senior associate in communications, media and technology for strategy and technology consultancy firm Booz Allen & Hamilton.

Cunningham will take up her new role on 10 March.
