The Telegraph's new social media and engagement editor Kate Day has been nominated for City University's inaugural XCity alumni award.

Day is the second person to be shortlisted for the award following

Simon Rogers, the editor of the Guardian's Datablog and Datastore

, who was named as being in the running on Friday.

XCity Magazine, an online magazine written by journalism students at City University, reports that Day has been shortlisted for her work on the

Debate2010 project, where readers were invited to suggest policies that they would like to see introduced by the new government ahead of the general election and then vote on each other’s suggestions.

Day runs a successful Telegraph photography blog and is credited with attracting new readers to the newspaper through engaging via social media.

She graduated from City's newspaper course in 2007.
