Web 2.0 is all about user-generated content, according to Dominique Vidal, MD Europe, Yahoo!, UK.
"The first stage, 10 years ago, was publishers; the second stage, aggregators; the third stage is user-generated content," he told an audience of bloggers at Le Web 3 in Paris today (11 December 2006).
But don't panic, publishers, the three models are not exclusive and have not actually superseded each other, as Mr Vidal goes on to explain (see video below).
Mr Vidal was speaking on a panel of big-hitters from Orange, Nokia and Microsoft. The consensus appeared to be that big numbers are the key to success in any community-based enterprise, with an implicit underlying philosophy of the scattergun effect when it comes to content; if there is enough of it, some of it will stick.
As Mr Vidal later added: "I don't care if a lot of the content is crap, so long as some of the content is good quality."
